A total of two hundred and twenty-two (222) new COVID-19 positive cases were recorded today as testing continues, with all 48 quarantined cases been discharged from the isolation center after completing the 14 days quarantine period.

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services report says that COVID-19 medical testing via PCR lab test found a hundred and seventy-one cases (171), whilst Rapid Antigen Test found twenty-two (22) in South Tarawa, Betio and Buota, forty-six (46) cases in Butaritari island and twenty-nine cases in North Tarawa bringing a total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Kiribati to two thousand a hundred and seventy-three (2173).

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases has now increased to two thousand one hundred and seventy three (2,173) which comprises of forty two (42) imported cases and two thousand one hundred and thirty one (2,131) community cases on South Tarawa, Betio and Buota, one hundred and twenty (120) cases on Butaritari island and twenty nine (29) cases in North Tarawa.

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services reports says an elderly covid patient has been recorded as well, the 65-year-old patient is from North Tarawa has received the 2 dose vaccination but historically has had a stroke. The patient is at the isolation center for medical treatment and regular monitoring and reported to be in a stable condition.

Apart from these cases, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services also confirmed that forty eight (48) border cases at the Quarantine Centre have all been discharged after being tested negative from COVID-19. Eighty-eight (88) community cases have been confirmed to have recovered after passing their fourteenth day after being tested positive without needing to be admitted to the hospital.

The Government reminds the public to take extra care and look after their elderly parents and relatives, as they are vulnerable. The public is reminded to ensure that the elderly persons complete their vaccinations and to be taken to hospitals when they feel sick.

The Government also reminds the general public to strictly follow the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Standard Operational Procedures, comply with the curfew order under Alert Level 3 and to ensure that they are fully vaccinated to safeguard themselves and their families from the pandemic.
