The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has confirmed sixty-five (65) new positive COVID-19 cases outside border quarantine. The 65 new cases on Tarawa remain home quarantined noting their mild symptoms.

Following the update made yesterday on COVID-19 admissions at the Isolation center, the only patient who has a history of a heart problem has been discharged today. No admissions received as of today. It is reported that some Government officials who have been tested positive have continued to work remotely from home. Some have recovered and reported back to work after passing the period where they are infectious.

This brings the total number of positive cases to 181 which comprises 36 imported and 145 local cases that includes the 9 cases found in Butaritari.

Due to the increasing positive cases of COVID-19, the Government of Kiribati has decided to further extend the lockdown of South Tarawa, Betio and Buota for another week. Full details of the extension of the curfew order and declaration of the state of emergency will be released shortly.

The public is advised to strictly follow the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Standard Operational Procedures and comply with the curfew order to safeguard themselves and their families from this pandemic.
