The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has confirmed 20 new COVID-19 cases.
According to a report, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services confirmed that the 20 new community cases were found on South Tarawa, Betio and Buota whereas 14 cases were confirmed through PCR lab test and 6 cases were confirmed through Rapid Antigen Test.
The cumulative total of COVID-19 cases in Kiribati is now 2,757 which comprises of 42 imported cases and 2,715 community cases on South Tarawa, Betio, Buota, Butaritari, North Tarawa and Abaiang. Recorded community cases found on South Tarawa, Betio and Buota is 2,465; Butaritari 120, North Tarawa 49; Abaiang 45; Abemama has 18 cases and the 18 new cases confirmed yesterday for Abaiang and North Tarawa.
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services also reported that 146 new cases have recovered and are from South Tarawa, Betio and Buota. This brings the total number of recoveries to 715. The number of death cases remain at 9. Apart from that, two new cases admitted to the isolation center for monitoring and further medical treatments include an 83 and 77 years old, bringing the total to 4 cases now at the isolation center.
The orders under Alert Level 3 are still in effect with the extension of lockdown for another week, and the public is advised to strictly follow the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Standard Operational Procedures. The public is asked to take extra care and look after their elderly parents and relatives, as they are vulnerable and to ensure that they complete their vaccinations and to be taken to hospitals when they feel sick.
Due to the rapid spread of the virus, the Government has decided to extend the curfew for another two more weeks starting from this Friday 18th of February 2022 until Friday 4th March 2022. Full details of the curfew will be shared later.
